In this continuation of Part 1, learners will be guided through conversations about the impact bias can have on effective decision-making, the competencies needed to recognize and address our own biases, and also the biases of others.
The Oxford Dictionary defines bias as "a strong feeling in favor of or against one group of people, or one side in an argument." Bias is a key element to be considered when creating an equitable and inclusive workplace environment where all viewpoints are welcome. While bias is common among all humans and can assist us in learning about ourselves and others, bias in the workplace can have significant negative consequences for individuals and organizations if not understood and addressed.
Learners will be asked to reflect on and explore their professional and personal as they relate to bias and DEI. These conversations will aid in developing an individualized action plan to establish a workplace where different types of bias are discussed and addressed to create a more equitable, inclusive, and diverse workplace.
