Understanding the power and reality of different dynamics within workplaces and world spaces is critical. It is not about forcing people to share their experiences but rather being patient with them and giving them the freedom to share if they feel comfortable.
Power and gender dynamics are defined as “the friction between people with different gender and sexual identities in corporate organizations.” While organizations may genuinely want to promote an inclusive and equitable workplace for everyone, factors such as biases, microaggressions, double-bind, and intersectionality may contribute to a workplace climate where there are both undisclosed (implicit) and obvious (explicit) differences in how genders are treated and respected in the workplace. This impacts all team members' decision-making ability and productivity and interferes with creating a diverse and positive workplace. In this course, learners will be guided through a conversation about the male experience in different spaces and strategies for mitigating negative encounters and outcomes.
Alyssa Vasquez will guide learners through strategies for creating more space for equality in spaces currently experiencing inequality. Learners will also be introduced to how men experience or perpetuate certain issues differently and tips for mitigating the adverse effects of power and gender dynamics. This will lead to the development of an individualized action plan to aid in establishing a workplace where all employees feel empowered to speak up and become vital and contributing members.
